There was a direct flight from roatan to milan with neos an italian company. I managed to eventually get a ticket for $ 360 one way, but was forced to delay (right to the last day) booking onward ryanair flight due to the neos flights not knowing the departure time! so I had to pay 106 euros finally for the ryanair. Then train back to my home town of march cambridgeshire. For a few of the details read on...
I was to travel with Luke and Pinot friends who were dive instructors on the island. Luke is going back to Roatan in 6 weeks. Pinot may or may not. Me I certainly feel like going back. But things tend to get in the way.
Well we took a taxi together from west end to the airport at 7.15 pm. En route picked up luke then pinot. My pack was just about 18kg with fins strapped on. And I tooke a carrier with 3 books and my standard black bag I will throw away now. We all fitted in the taxi and went to the airport. It was easier leaving with them somehow. I was so sad during the preceding weeks and days and the last day I was running round trying to find out when the flight was leaving. When it was finally confirmed for the evening I had just enough time to nip up to west bay to say goodbye to ruth and mickey. It was to be a run, my last for the moment. I got back and then had a swim , I had the energy. But forgot my goggles so looked very red eyed the rest of the afternoon. I nipped up to sandy bay to say goodbye to jen and cam back to the purple turtle for a couple of beers. I had already packed. I did want to stop by coconut tree divers but elected not to. I dont like to make a deal out of goodbyes.
LET ME SAY IF I FORGOT TO SAY GOODBYE, IM SORRY. I missed the "last night" party and prefered to have a full day i.e. with no hangover and I dont like to say goodbye. Anyway I may be back in the spring or a bit later.
We arrived at the airport a bit late for the crowd and could have come an hour later. But we were fine, my visa which was the most correct and of the new white type seemed to puzzle the immigration more than luke or pinot's. The flight went quite well but we messed around at cancun just after falling asleep the first time, we all slept very easily as it was a 10.pm departure. We had to overnight in milan me and luke pinot was leaving at milan.
And then there were 2, me and luke. We got our bus from malpensa airport which is every 20 mins and cost 5 euros (now why isnt england this cheap ? or often). We trudged around milan's stazione centrale for a cheaper hotel and found one for 52 euros, got showered and froze our arses off ! We were no longer used to it. We headed out to check the internet and look for food, Mc d's sufficed and back we went. I slept deeply until the hotel alarm call. We were out within 20 mins and then onto the bus to bergamo. Luke took my fins as luggage as he had less weight (cheers mate) and we checked on ok. Ryaniar have a policy of 20 kgs luggage and there was this girl in front with 69 odd kilos !!!!! We didn't understand the conversation but she seemed to get away with it. At stansted I rushed for my train saying a quick goodbye and missed it so went looking abck for luke, he was sat on his coarch bound for london, so i said again fairwell.
Then there was one.
My train came eventually and upon arrival found it difficult to get a taxi. There was a very rude little black kid and his mother who was a real pushover in the leanient sense in the taxi office and the kid just left the big door open as it was raining, I let him know his shortcommings as I got up to close it I WAS TIRED ! The ride past overweight young mothers pushing prams sucking down cigarettes did nothing for my spirit, but I was soon to see my mother and my dog and that was good.
